Today has been a great day. Church was amazing. Geoff and I go to Harvest Muskoka in Bracebridge. Kaj's sermon was on James 1:13-18 and was super powerful, leaving me with lots to think about. (I might post some more later about my thoughts, but don't hold your breath!) I usually enjoy sitting calmly and thinking, typically with a cup of tea, but today we had some errands to run, and one of those errands included picking up a Christmas tree.
I love Christmas. I love getting together with family, seeing friends I haven't seen in a while, drinking apple cider, seeing all the lights on the pretty houses, and I also really love decorating. This year things are a bit different for us. We're living in a much smaller house than the one we were in last year, which means most of our decorations are packed away. It also means that we thought getting a fake Christmas tree for this year would be a good idea. We needed something smaller and less pine-needly. I really like having a real tree, don't get me wrong. I love the scent and the feel of a real tree much more than the look and non-smell of a fake one. Regardless, off to Zellers we went. (Our Zellers store is open til March!)
Upon arriving home, we decided to set up the tree to make sure we really liked it outside of the box picture, and to make sure it worked and had the height and circumference we were looking for. Me, getting all excited, asked my poor husband if we could find a spot for it in the living room...
He's now very tired. We moved our couch to three different spots, as well as the coffee table and our IKEA chair, out of the living room and back again...the lights have been moved, and a few removed to the basement (somewhere I won't go, which meant Geoff had to carry them down). Now our whole living room is in a completely different configuration from when we moved here late August.
I think (ok, maybe I know) it's a gene passed down to me from my mom, - me enjoying rearranging everything in a room in the house, and not resting til it's done to perfection- something the Burns women do. I remember when I was growing up in my parents house, I think my mom reorganized our living room at least three times a year. It's a gene I enjoy having. It's also a gene I feel bad that I have because I pity my husband for having to put up with it...!
Anyway. Back to Christmas! Our living room has been rearranged. I established that:) Our tree is now standing prettily in the corner, bare of lights and ornaments. I'm looking forward to putting them on next weekend, if I can make it that long. I'm sitting here content, writing or "blah" ing (I feel this post is blah) onto this page, and I wanted to wish you all a happy evening, whatever you're doing:)

Cake Mix Cookies
It's been an eventful couple of days here. Geoff was unexpectedly off for the weekend, which was a surprise, but a nice one nonetheless. So, a few of the things I wanted to do were pushed out of the way, but I wasn't about to let one thing go...baking! I've been wanting to bake for a couple of days (hence my post earlier about making shortbread cookies) but wasn't really sure what to make, with limited ingredients and a hungry hubby. I decided to look for a recipe for cake mix cookies, seeing as I have an abundance of these, thanks to sales and my mom.
While I've tried to make this type of cookie before, they didn't turn out right the last time. I don't know if it was the recipe, my oven, me, or the type of cake mix, but it made me a little skeptical about this type of cookie, for sure. Needless to say, after reading this recipe, I decided to give it a whirl.
Here's the recipe! Cake Mix Cookies
For mine, I used a Butter Pecan cake mix by Duncan Hines (Geoff's favourite) and added approximately 3/4 cup of blueberries and 1/4 cup of walnuts. They were a hit:)

Movies and Shortbread
This night has turned out to be an interesting one. Geoff and I made dinner and sat down to watch a movie that we both thought we would like. We had both skimmed through this movie (Contagion), and, not seeing any gory parts, decided it would be fun to watch...this was definitely not the case. Not even 10 minutes in there was a gory scene, one that almost made me lose my dinner. I certainly couldn't finish eating it. Needless to say, I think next time we'll both skim through a movie a little more carefully than we did this time.
I really have a wonderful husband, though. Instead of giving up on our movie night date, he let me choose what I would want to watch instead of Contagion. I chose Anne of Green Gables. I haven't seen these movies for years and am really looking forward to watching the first one. He's off napping right now so he won't fall asleep during the movie (it's 3 hrs plus). Which is really sweet. He's definitely fallen asleep through more than one chick flick before:) Not that I blame him. Sci-Fi movies don't agree with me just as much as chick flicks don't agree with him.
That's one awesome part of marriage, though. The give and take. It's definitely not easy to do, it's far easier to take than to give, at least for me, but it's so great when things are balanced and fluid.
Once I pick up some icing sugar, I'm going to make my sugar some shortbread...hopefully this recipe turns out great! Thanks to tablespoon.com for the recipe!

I Just "Blah"ed On You
To be honest, I'm not really sure why I decided I wanted to start a blog. I've seen and read blogs for years and never really desired to have my own. But today there was this pull...this indescribable longing. And so I started my blog.
I'm not really sure what's going to come out of this. I feel like it may just be for my own growth. I'm the kind of person that needs to talk things out, or write things out, in order to understand them. I kind of just "blah" all over the person(s) I am speaking to or the page(s) that I'm writing on.
I read blogs of people that travel the world, or design rooms. People that have jobs and interesting things going on in their life. My life isn't that grand. I'm currently out of work, living in a city that I've been in for barely 4 months, and I don't design rooms or travel the world. But that's okay with me. I have a husband that loves me, and we're here because God called us here.
Geoff (my husband) is working at a Christian camp, serving full-time. I'm not really sure what God's plan is for me yet. Right now, it's teaching me patience.
I hope all of you will be patient with me as I strive to discover who I am created to be. If you want to read a blog filled with adventures and exciting things, this may not be the one for you. It'll have the occasional recipe or two that I've found and like, or a poem I've written, or something I've painted. More than likely, though, it'll just be full of lots of "blah"ing:)
